In a 2023 incident in Santa Rosa County, deputies said Ashley Lynn Winslow cut a woman, forced her out of her vehicle and drove off in it.
The incident occurred June 28, 2023.
Deputies responded to a report of a cutting and arrested Winslow, according to the sheriff's office.
Earlier Sheriff's Office Account Of The Attack
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office previously told WEAR-TV that deputies responded to a cutting at the 7700 block of South Airport Road in Milton around 3:30 a.m. That earlier report said deputies described Winslow as having cut the victim, forced her out of her vehicle, and driven off with it. Deputies also told the station that Winslow and the victim were known associates who had become involved in an argument before the attack.
At the time of that initial report, the station said the woman had been sent to a hospital, though her condition was unknown.
How Florida Law Defines The Charges
At the time of her arrest, Winslow faced charges of aggravated battery with great bodily harm and with a weapon, in addition to carjacking with a weapon. Under Florida Statutes Section 784.045, aggravated battery covers intentionally or knowingly causing great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement, or using a deadly weapon while committing a battery, according to the Florida Legislature. That statute classifies the offense as a second-degree felony.
The case echoes another carjacking-and-stabbing prosecution in Santa Rosa County's namesake city clear across the country. In Santa Rosa, California, a jury convicted Elijah Beck on seven counts, including attempted carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon, after five days of testimony tied to a May 2023 stabbing in a Safeway parking lot, according to The Press Democrat. That report said Beck faced up to 10 years in prison at the time of his scheduled sentencing.
