A deadly incident transpired late Monday night in Houston, where a woman's ex-boyfriend was fatally shot after a violent altercation outside her home. Click2Houston reports that the woman, having recently ended the relationship, had called a male friend for support while her ex came to collect his belongings. The ex-boyfriend's attack escalated rapidly, confirmed by doorbell video footage that showed him assaulting the woman.
In an attempt to protect her, the woman's friend initially tried to intervene but found himself under assault by the ex-boyfriend as well, according to Click2Houston. The friend, after walking to his truck, retrieved a firearm and ultimately shot the ex-boyfriend multiple times upon finding the woman on the ground. Lt. JP Horelica of the Houston Police Department described the assault as "pretty brutal." As the children slept upstairs unaware, the tragic scene unraveled below.
The ex-boyfriend succumbed to his injuries on the porch of the residence. The male friend responsible for the shooting was found by the police in west Houston and taken into custody. Despite the severity of her injuries, the beaten woman declined to go to the hospital. FOX 26 Houston mentions that Houston PD has doorbell video evidence of the assault, which will be reviewed in the ongoing investigation.
As it stands, the fate of the shooter remains uncertain. Lt. Horelica told FOX 26 Houston, "it is not determined if the male friend will face charges in the shooting." The Harris County District Attorney's Office will be presented with the case to decide whether charges will be filed or if it will be sent to a grand jury. Meanwhile, resources for those facing similar violent situations are available through community support initiatives.
