Following the verdict read on Tuesday, Wendy Alvarez, Arlene's mother, confronted Earls during her victim impact statement, claiming "Tony Earls, I saw that you wanted to apologize to us. But what you did that night was wrong, and you need to pay for your consequences. Twenty years is not enough," as she stood, holding her daughter's unpolished charm bracelet, this was captured in a statement by FOX 26.
As reported by CW39, the trial revealed a series of troubling events, including surveillance footage showing a violent confrontation between Earls and his stepson involving a firearm. The jury also saw evidence of another incident where a gun threat occurred during a heated dispute between them.
While the defense maintained that Earls acted in a frightening and chaotic situation, believing the alleged robber had entered the victims’ vehicle, the jury sided with the prosecution, which described the shooting as reckless and unjustified. During yesterday’s testimony, Earls Jr. expressed a desire for forgiveness despite the irreversible consequences, stating, "For three and a half years, I never had the chance to ask them for forgiveness. I pray and ask God for forgiveness all the time and I can’t get past me not asking them to forgive me for my mistakes that night," as detailed in a report by FOX 26.
