Houston police are currently investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 39-year-old man early this morning on South Loop East (Interstate Highway 610). The incident took place at around 1:10 a.m. near the Scott street exit, as reported by the City of Houston news release.
Details are still coming in, but according to Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer C. Moralez from the Houston Police Vehicular Crimes Division, the man was driving a white GMC Canyon pickup and failed to stay in his lane. This caused the truck to crash into the concrete barrier separating the main lanes from the exit ramp. The identity of the person who died has not been released yet because family members have not been notified, which is the job of the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to the City of Houston.
The Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene shortly after the accident was reported. Upon arrival, they pronounced the driver deceased at the location of the crash. Officials have confirmed that no other individuals or vehicles were involved in this tragic incident, as per the City of Houston.
