The Houston Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that took place last night, resulting in the death of a 76-year-old woman. The incident, which happened at around 6:55 p.m. at 1400 South Voss Road, involved a black Land Rover SUV and a red Hyundai Accent. The identity of the deceased is currently being withheld pending familial notification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, as reported by the City of Houston.
According to Officer K. Stanley from the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, the Land Rover was attempting a left turn into a private drive when it made contact with the Hyundai traveling in the opposite direction. The impact was severe enough to force the Hyundai off the road, where it hit a tree. The collision proved fatal for the passenger of the Hyundai, whom was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
The driver of the Land Rover, who has not been identified, stayed at the crash site and cooperated with authorities. Following the initial assessment, officials noted that the driver appeared sober and was subsequently released after questioning.
