Emergency repairs on the Houston Avenue Bridge will close parts of the I-10 Katy Freeway in Houston from 9 p.m. on September 12 to 5 a.m. on September 15. The closures will affect both local and through traffic. Drivers are advised to follow posted detours and allow extra travel time while the work is underway, according to Click2Houston.
I-10 Katy Freeway eastbound from Shepherd/Durham to Houston Avenue is closed after an 18-wheeler hit the Houston Avenue bridge. Drivers can detour using the eastbound frontage road and connectors via I-610 and I-45 to return to I-10. Between Antoine Drive and Shepherd Drive, four left lanes are closed, with detours via I-610 West Loop northbound, I-610 North Loop eastbound, and I-45 southbound to rejoin I-10. Follow the detours and allow extra travel time, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
Drivers can use Hogan Street, N. Main Street, and Quitman Street as detours. The bridge is planned for demolition in early 2027 and will be rebuilt to run under I-10 as part of the White Oak Bayou elevation project. Recent truck collisions at the site led to safety and infrastructure improvements. Traffic updates and detour information are available on Texas Department of Transportation’s official channels.
