The White Settlement Police Department shared its condolences on social media for the unexpected loss of Hurst Police Chief Steve Niekamp. An evening procession of Honors was held, and their Honor Guard participated to pay tribute to the late chief, per the White Settlement Police Department.
As detailed by the City of Hurst, Chief Niekamp's journey with the Hurst Police Department began in 1990, and he ascended to the role of police chief in January 2018. His tenure was abruptly cut short due to what has only been described as a health complication. The City spoke highly of Niekamp's leadership qualities, stating that he consistently led with integrity and demonstrated unwavering loyalty and appreciation to his team.
"Chief Niekamp dedicated his life to serving the Hurst community," City Manager Clay Caruthers said, per the White Settlement Police Department. Mayor Henry Wilson also expressed his sorrow over the loss, noting, "Chief Niekamp was a good friend of mine as well as an impressive police chief. This is a tragic loss for us, and my heart goes out to his loved ones and the members of the Hurst Police Department."
