An inmate at Yuba County Jail was declared deceased this past Monday after experiencing a medical emergency. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m., and despite immediate efforts by correctional officers and on-site medical staff, as well as subsequent attempts by paramedics and fire personnel, the individual did not survive.
The Yuba County Sheriff's Department shared a statement detailing the event, noting that the inmate, a 39-year-old male, had been in custody since August. His name has not been released, pending the notification of next of kin. The social media post from the Sheriff's Department emphasized the prompt response by jail staff and emergency responders: "Officers, along with on-site medical staff, immediately began life-saving measures until paramedics and fire personnel arrived to take over care."
An investigation to determine the official cause of death is underway, with an autopsy and toxicology testing to be conducted by the Yuba County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office. The outcome of these examinations, which will shed light on the circumstances leading to the inmate’s death, is yet to be disclosed.
