
An investigation is underway following the death of Donyell Cornell Morris, a 24-year-old inmate at the Eastern Correctional Institute in Westover, Maryland, as confirmed by Maryland State Police. Morris was found unresponsive in his cell on August 31 and pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is working in concert with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Intelligence and Investigative Division (DPSCS IID) and has identified a suspect; however, charges have not been filed pending the investigation's conclusion, and, as of yet, details on the suspect are kept undisclosed. The investigation began after Morris was discovered lifeless on his bunk by correctional officers, with another inmate present in the same cell.
According to Maryland State Police, once the investigation is completed, findings will be reviewed by the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office.
