The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is deep into an investigation of a grim murder-suicide that shocked the quiet Valrico neighborhood. On the morning of Thursday, authorities were alerted to a situation when they received a distressing call from a man claiming to have done something regrettable.
When deputies arrived at the scene at a residence on the 1000 block of Crystal Carbon Way, their knocks went unanswered. Tensions mounted as the looming silence pushed them towards an inevitable intrusion for a welfare check, especially after the victim's employer reported their absence from work for several days. It was inside the home that deputies made the grievous discovery of two bodies, as reported by the official Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office press release.
The investigation revealed a sinister narrative — the victim bore the marks of a violent encounter with blunt force trauma to the upper-body, and nearby, the suspect lay with a weapon and a wound, that investigators believe to be self-inflicted.
"This is an unimaginable tragedy that has left a family and community grieving," spoke Sheriff Chad Chronister in a statement. "Violence is never the answer. If you or someone you know is struggling, organizations like the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay are here to help," according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
