An undercover sting conducted by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the exposure of an online predator targeting children, the office has confirmed through an official announcement. On August 26, detectives, with Detective C. James working incognito as a minor, uncovered the attempts of Christopher Sean Resue, a registered sex offender, to commit illicit acts with whom he believed to be an underage child. According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, the communications involved Resue expressing a disturbing interest in performing sexual acts with a supposed child, which prompted authorities to take swift action.

Following the investigation, the Iredell County Sheriff's Office carried out a search that resulted in the seizure of various items linked to the crime further strengthening their case against Resue; he was charged earlier, on August 13, when he entered a guilty plea in Iredell County Superior Court facing Four Counts of Third Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, the situation was escalated eventually leading to his arrest by the Sheriff's Office.

In an appearance before Magistrate Russell, Resue was slapped with a hefty $500,000 secured bond. This operation and subsequent arrest have underlined the ongoing threat posed by individuals using the internet to exploit minors and the critical need for continued undercover operations to protect vulnerable youth from such predators.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office has affirmed that their investigation into this matter is far from over, with the expectation of additional charges being brought forth as the case progresses; the office remains committed to its responsibilities in protecting children from exploitative dangers lurking online, which too often go unnoticed until irrevocable harm has been done, and the lives of young victims marked by trauma.
