Jacksonville residents can expect a sunny day ahead with the mercury poised to hit a comfortable 87 degrees. The gentle northeast breeze, possibly gusting up to 20 mph, will likely carry through from the morning into the afternoon while temperatures tonight are forecasted to dip just slightly to a low of around 72 degrees, maintaining those clear evening skies for any late-night endeavors, according to the latest weather update from the National Weather Service.

Looking further ahead, the NWS anticipates continued sunny weather with a high nudging slightly higher to around 89 degrees for Thursday; the light winds, which could occasionally reach 16 mph in strength, will shift east in the morning, letting folks enjoy a relatively calm and pleasant day and on Thursday night they'll experience mostly clear conditions again with a low hovering around 73 degrees, giving way to a calm evening as that east wind settles down.

By Friday, however, there's a twist with a 20% chance of showers and perhaps thunderstorms post-2 pm amidst the sunshine, high temperatures are set to crest near a toasty 90 degrees, while a light north to east wind will persist through much of the day, ruffling the otherwise calm weather pattern, the NWS reports.

Over the weekend, those odds for precipitation bump up slightly, with Saturday showcasing a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, but it's the leading edge of a weather shift that will bring increased likelihood of showers and storms into early next week; by Monday and Tuesday, Jacksonville could be looking at a 60 percent and 80 percent chance for thunderstorms respectively, yet despite the potential for rain, daytime highs will stick close to the upper 80s.

Meanwhile, beachgoers must stay vigilant as the NWS has issued a Rip Current Statement risk alert for Coastal Nassau and Coastal Duval counties that's in effect through late tonight, with their statement urging "Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."
