Early morning yesterday in Jacksonville’s Brentwood neighborhood, a man was fatally shot during an alleged break-in. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), the shooting occurred around 3:45 a.m. on North Pearl Street. Officers found the man with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department crews.

According to News4Jax, JSO Sgt. M.W. Highfill said preliminary findings suggest the man may have been attempting a burglary when the homeowner shot him. The homeowner was taken into custody for questioning as the investigation continued. The suspect’s identity has not been released.

JSO has not yet determined if there was any relationship between the suspect and the homeowner, as reported by First Coast News.

The home in the 3400 block of North Pearl Street became a crime scene as detectives investigated, Action News Jax reported.
