Waters and the entire office shared a message of condolence, highlighting Officer Jewell's dedication to public service and his efforts in making the community a safer place.
"We are heartbroken over the tragic death of Edgewater Police Officer David Jewell, who was shot and killed while off duty in Volusia County last night," the statement read. The Sheriff's Office shared their thoughts were with Jewell's family, friends, and his fellow officers during this trying time.
"Our hearts are with his family, friends, and brothers and sisters in blue. We stand with the Edgewater Police Department during this difficult time," said the Sheriff's Office.
