The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is on the lookout for a trio who redefined the concept of 'grand theft' at a local liquidation store. In a social media post yesterday, the Sheriff's Office shared a video and information about three individuals, including two elderly women, suspected of lifting a sizable quantity of wine without paying.
According to the post by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred on September 8 on St. Augustine Road in District 3. The footage from the store's security cameras shows the supposed grandmothers and a third accomplice – potentially a grandchild – selecting bottles of wine. However, the cameras also recorded them conveniently forgetting to settle their bill, ultimately absconding with more than 60 bottles.
The Sheriff's Office quipped about the suspects' motives for the heist, suggesting humorously that they were perhaps organizing a party to which the authorities were not invited. Nonetheless, the law enforcement agency expressed a very sincere aim to "connect with this thieving trio and bring them the bill for all the wine they took."
In an appeal to the public, the Sheriff's Office has asked anyone with information about the 'grand theft grandmas' or their accomplice to come forward. Individuals recognizing the suspects are encouraged to call 904.630.0500, or to remain anonymous, reach out to First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1.866.845.TIPS, where a cash reward that might prove tempting enough to purchase a wine stash is offered.
