A woman lost her life late Thursday night in Jacksonville’s San Marco area after being struck by a pickup truck while she was crossing Kings Avenue. News4Jax reports that the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) responded to the distressing scene and stated the woman was roughly 35 yards away from the nearest crosswalk.
Details provided by the JSO and mentioned in a First Coast News article reveal that the incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. in the 2200 block of Kings Avenue. According to First Coast News, the emergency response team transported the injured pedestrian to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver involved in the fatal accident remained at the location and has been collaborating with the law enforcement investigation. In a statement shared by Action News Jax, investigators did not suspect speed played a role in the unfortunate event. Nevetheless, the accident has tragically raised the number of roadway fatalities in Duval County to 116 for the year.
The identity of the woman has not been publicly disclosed pending notification of her next of kin. The JSO continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash and has not yet released additional information regarding potential charges or observations from the scene.
