Maui's economic landscape is set to revitalize under the guidance of a local visionary, Jade P. Rojas-Letisi, recently appointed as the director of the County of Maui Office of Economic Development (OED) by Mayor Richard Bissen, a move expected to fortify island industries and bolster small businesses rooted in the region's unique cultural heritage, as per an official announcement on the county's website.
In a statement made by the County of Maui, Rojas-Letisi, whose tenure began September 16, expressed that her new role transcends professional boundaries, symbolizing a commitment to the community that nurtured her development. "This is more than a role for me — it’s a responsibility to give back to the place that raised me," she said, affirming her dedication to foster the islands' economic strengths and secure prosperity for local businesses and families alike, despite the run-on nature of her excited proclamation.
With a pragmatic approach, Rojas-Letisi's strategic leadership at OED will set in motion numerous economic development activities, especially considering her past efforts as Mayor's executive assistant focusing on workforce development and post-wildfire recovery planning, her hands-on experience as a council aide addressing legislative issues, and her marketing background at Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center.
