The Canton Police Department has taken into custody a 29-year-old Jamaica Plain man identified as Luis Ernesto Nunez Nunez on multiple charges, including drug trafficking and property destruction after he was discovered illicitly occupying a vacant home, a situation that has raised concerns about both criminal activity and the ongoing drug crisis in the area.

Reported earlier on social media by the Canton Police, Nunez Nunez allegedly caused significant damage to the property on Green Street with a broken glass pane on the front door and storm doors removed, along with screen windows and storm panels, which led to his arrest for breaking with intent to commit a misdemeanor and it seems, upon further investigation, the suspect was further implicated in drug-related offenses when police found multiple glassine bags containing a powdery substance during a search of his vehicle, according to a Canton Police Department social media post.

The subsequent analysis revealed the bags seized from Nunez Nunez's car held about 57 grams of fentanyl and 4 grams of cocaine, pivotal evidence leading to the charges against him for trafficking in 10 grams or more of Fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, alongside the property damage and breaking allegations.

"Fentanyl and other dangerous drugs continue to devastate families and communities across our region," Interim Chief Joseph Perkins conveyed in relation to the detrimental impact of such substances, without failing to emphasize the Canton Police Department's dedication to eradicating these drugs, which he stated, to get these drugs off the street and minimizing the serious risks these substances pose, this reflects both an immediacy in the local law enforcement's response to the drug epidemic and the larger societal struggles with addiction and its associated criminal activities. Nunez Nunez was arraigned on Wednesday in Stoughton District Court and is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for next Monday.

The Canton Police assert these are mere allegations at this stage, underscoring the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a formal court of law, indicating that while the charges are serious, the legal process must determine the final outcome of the accusations set against Luis Ernesto Nunez Nunez.
