The Raleigh Fire Department has opened its doors to new applicants hoping to join their ranks as firefighters. With a final call for applications ending on Sept. 30, prospects should move quickly to secure a spot at the upcoming Fire Academy sessions set for early 2026.
The competition is expected to be fierce, with individuals of various backgrounds vying for a position within this diverse team. As noted on the City of Raleigh's official announcement, the job offers not only stability, but also a competitive starting salary of $56,825, effective from Sept. 6. In a bid to attract a wide array of talent, the Raleigh Fire Department emphasizes that experience in firefighting is not a prerequisite for applicants.
To qualify, candidates need to meet a few basic requirements - they must be at least 18 years old at the time of applying, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have 20/30 corrected vision in both eyes. Moreover, each applicant must have a valid driver's license. These conditions strive to ensure that all potential recruits are prepared for the rigorous physical and mental demands of the profession.
According to the same source, Raleigh Fire Department is organizing two different Academy sessions. The first, starting in February 2026 is tailored for applicants already holding EMT certifications. The second session, kicking off in late March, is open to those who are yet to earn their EMT certification, expanding opportunities for a larger group of candidates.
The application process for all potentials runs until Sept. 30, giving interested parties time to get their affairs in order and throw their helmets into the ring.
