The Kaua‘i Fire Department and the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center will host a Fire Prevention Week community event on October 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center. The event will feature activities and educational programs to help prevent fires at home and in the wild. KFD Fire Chief Michael Gibson said, "This event is a valuable opportunity to bring our partners and community together to focus on preventing both home fires and dangerous wildfires," according to the County of Kauai.
The free event will include Kaua‘i Fire Department and partner agencies such as the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency and Firewise Hawai‘i. They will have informational booths and hands-on activities. Attendees can take part in fire extinguisher training and learn about personal wildland fire safety. As Gibson says, "we want to share our public education curriculum with families to encourage important fire prevention conversations that start at home," as reported by the County of Kauai.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department is hosting a family-friendly safety event featuring fire truck explorations, photos with Sparky the fire safety mascot, CPR demonstrations, and a fall prevention program for kūpuna. The event is designed to be inclusive, and those needing special accommodations are encouraged to call 808-241-4985 or email KFD in advance. For more information, community members can contact Prevention Captain Kaeo Kinoshita at 808-241-1982 or [email protected], as stated by the County of Kauai.
