The Kekaha Landfill, a key node in the municipal sanitation network of Kauai, will be temporarily closing its gates to commercial haulers on Friday, September 29, for a system upgrade. The Solid Waste Division has announced that during this time they will be executing critical updates to the landfill's scale house infrastructure, including the installation of new cabling, server replacement, and configuration work on serial and parallel ports, as reported by the County of Kauai.
Despite the closure for businesses that day, officials have confirmed that the landfill will remain accessible to residential customers seeking to dispose of their waste. Apparently unaffected by the need for the scale during this temporary upgrade, the flow of residential trash will continue as usual.
With regular operational hours for commercial entities spanning from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, the one-day disruption is seen as a necessary inconvenience. Residential disposal hours, which normally run daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a half-hour hiatus for lunch from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., will not be altered by the systems upgrade.
Operations are scheduled to resume to normal for all users the following day, Saturday, September 30. In the interim, commercial haulers are advised to make alternative arrangements for that Friday or hold until normal service is re-established.
