An early morning incident yesterday near Kennywood amusement park in West Mifflin claimed the life of a 73-year-old employee. The accident, which involved a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle, occurred just before 6 a.m. at the intersection of Kennywood Boulevard and Hoffman Boulevard. Authorities were alerted to the crash, which subsequently led to the involvement of fire officials and police.
Calling to the scene before the sun had crested the horizon, Allegheny County dispatchers confirmed the tragic event. According to WPXI, the crash investigation necessitated the closure of the nearby roads for multiple hours, disrupting the typical early morning calm. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office would later identify the victim as Lorna Lee Brennen, a woman whose years spanned over seven decades.
The General Manager of Kennywood, Ricky Spicuzza, paid homage to the employee involved in the accident, expressing the park's sorrow over the incident. "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our hosts, who passed away earlier this morning," Spicuzza said in a statement detailed by WTAE. He further extended thoughts and prayers to Brennen's family and friends amidst the difficult time.
