Seeking to promote health and wellness in the community, the Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department has initiated a weekly Lunchtime Walking Club, as per their recent announcement. This free program invites participants of all ages to enjoy a midday stroll every Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., spanning from Wednesday through October 15.
The seven-week series is intended to motivate folks to get up from their desks, chairs, and comfort zones and move in the company of fellow walkers. No need for advanced booking, as interested individuals can simply arrive at the Kingsport Greenbelt parking area at Riverfront Park, clad in their comfiest walking shoes, to participate. The path meanders beside the scenic Holston River, providing a refreshing backdrop for both exercise and relaxation.
"Join us for a lunchtime walk along the greenbelt this fall and let’s all walk for better health together," Michael Brosenne, the Program Leader of the initiative, emphasized the program's focus on collective well-being and the shared pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.
By establishing such community programs, Kingsport Parks and Recreation is actively contributing to the public's health. Moreover, amid the hustle of daily life, these lunchtime walks serve as a communal escape to nature, all while fostering an environment of collective mindfulness to health. Programs like this are becoming a significant aspect of civic engagement, setting the pace for a healthier, more connected community. For those interested, more information is readily available through Kingsport's official government website.
