The Kissimmee Police Department finds itself embroiled in yet another controversy as Deputy Chief Wilson Munoz is placed on administrative leave amid an ongoing internal investigation. This development adds another layer to the challenges faced by the department, which has been striving to mend its reputation following a significant scandal in 2023.
A spokesperson for the City of Kissimmee confirmed Munoz's status, stating, "We can confirm that Deputy Chief Wilson Munoz is currently the subject of an internal investigation. Because it is an active investigation, no further details can be shared at this time. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay," according to a FOX 35 Orlando report. The nature of the allegations against Munoz has not been disclosed, and the department's recent history of scandal has been marked by allegations of excessive force and systemic issues within the agency.
The Kissimmee Police Department has been under a microscope since body-camera footage unearthed purported misconduct by officers involved in a use-of-force case two years ago. The incident led to a joint inquiry by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office. As a result, an officer was arrested, several were dismissed, and the then-Chief Betty Holland, along with Deputy Chief Camille Alicea, resigned from their positions, as detailed in a report from ClickOrlando.
