The La Vergne Police Department recently hosted a series of Rape Aggression Defense instructor courses at Fire Station 41 on Old Nashville Highway. The training was open to both law enforcement and civilians and focused on preparing participants to teach women self-defense tactics, according to the City of La Vergne.
The nationally recognized program recently held a three-day Basic Physical Defense course with 34 participants from several states. The training focused on awareness, risk reduction, and avoidance, with some attendees preparing to become future instructors. In addition, 18 individuals completed a two-day Replicating course, which trains instructors to lead safe, scenario-based self-defense practice sessions, as reported by the City of La Vergne.
The La Vergne Police Department is working to expand access to Rape Aggression Defense courses, which teach women self-defense skills to help them handle dangerous situations. In a statement, the department said, "In our continuing efforts to serve our community, the La Vergne Police Department continues to collaborate with local agencies to expand access to R.A.D. courses across the region," as stated by the City of La Vergne.
