As the leaves begin to crisply turn and the evenings draw in, it's clear that Oktoberfest season is upon us. St. Alphonsus Church in Lakeview is once again the epicenter of this Germanic revelry in Chicago, kicking off its 23rd annual Oktoberfest this weekend. With an expected start time of 5 p.m. this Friday, the event promises to deliver an authentic slice of Bavarian culture, complete with food, music, and an array of specialty brews.
But let's not forget, this is not merely about feasting on schnitzel and raising steins; it's a celebration deeply rooted in the community. As reported by ABC7 Chicago, Father Steven Bauer, the pastor of Saint Alphonsus, is ready to welcome both old and new faces to this year's festivities. The prices are friendly to wallets, too, with admission set at $10 for the prime Friday and Saturday slots, and a humble $5 suggested donation rounding off the party on Sunday.
Those familiar with the event will recognize the traditional layout, encompassing the church grounds at 1429 West Wellington Avenue. According to a WGN TV interview with Father Stephen Bauer, the weekend schedule is designed to cater to attendees of all ages. Doors open promptly at noon post the initial kickoff and carry on until 10 p.m. for both Friday and Saturday. The festival will then close on a slightly earlier note on Sunday, at 7 p.m.
