Residents on Lānaʻi looking to clear out old appliances and electronics have a date to circle on their calendars, as the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) gears up for a major recycling and disposal event. Slated for October 11, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the one-day event will take place at the Pulama Lānaʻi Fleet Yard, as noted by the County of Maui's official announcement.
The collection effort welcomes a variety of items, including large appliances such as refrigerators, air-conditioning units, and water heaters, alongside smaller household appliances, up to and including bulky and potentially hazardous materials like tires and propane tanks, ensuring that reclaiming your space comes with the added benefit of proper environmental stewardship. Residents are advised to come prepared to unload their wares, but for the heavier stuff, staff and forklift assistance will be on hand to help with items that require more than a simple tug and heave.
While the offer extends to all residents, businesses are reminded that they aren't exempt from the responsibility of proper disposal—they'll be subject to fees imposed by the contractor Refrigerant Recycling.
