In an effort to honor those who were lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge will see a temporary suspension of both north and southbound vehicular traffic during the early hours of the memorial day this year. As officially reported by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, the Laredo Port of Entry has informed travellers of the halt in operations on September 11, which is expected to begin at 6:45 a.m. and last until 8:00 a.m. to make way for the 24th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony.
While reflecting on the solemnity of the occasion, CBP urges members of the public needing to cross the border on the morning of the anniversary to plan ahead; they recommend using the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge before the temporary closure or opting for the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge, which will open at 6 a.m and offer an alternate route to accommodate traffic. In an announcement made by the CBP, they advise travelers to come prepared with radio frequency identification (RFID)-equipped travel documents to expedite the border crossing process in their Ready Lanes.
To further assist those on the move, CBP has made available resources to check the latest border wait times; they can access this information through their smartphones by downloading the BWT app from the CBP's Border Wait Times application available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. The app provides hourly updates, thus enabling travelers to make well-informed decisions regarding which bridge to use for their crossing.
