The OIR Group, a police auditing firm appointed by the City of Las Cruces, has scheduled a community meeting to connect with residents about its role and the services it provides. Set for 6 p.m. on the approaching Monday, September 8, the forum will take place at the City Council Chambers, located at 700 N Main St.
Eliciting a response from the community, the meeting expected to last two hours, aims to facilitate an open dialogue. Residents are encouraged to pose questions in an open forum and share their experiences or concerns regarding local policing. According to the City of Las Cruces, this is seen as a vital step to "help the OIR Group get a pulse on policing in our community."
Earlier that same day, the OIR Group will deliver its eighth semi-annual report to the City Council during a work session slated for a 1 p.m. start, also to be held in the City Council Chambers. This report will encapsulate their review and assessment of internal affairs investigations by the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) related to allegations of misconduct. The findings and recommendations from the firm are presented to the City Council twice a year, reflecting a commitment to transparency and accountability.
