Las Vegas commuters can expect a return to normalcy as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) wraps up its overnight re-striping work on the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes along Interstate 15. The re-striping project, which stretches between Twain Avenue and Silverado Ranch Boulevard, kicked off on Sunday, with operations planned through to Thursday, September 25. This effort is set to restore the distinct lane markings necessary for HOV lane regulations, according to the NDOT.

The streak of night work, scheduled from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. each day, aims to inflict minimal disruption on daily traffic. During these hours, I-15 northbound and southbound will be tapered down to two lanes in specified segments. The affected sections of roadways will shift nightly, starting with the stretch from Sunset Rd to Flamingo Rd on Sunday night, followed by closures from Silverado Ranch Blvd to Sunset Rd on Monday, and then the striping heading back south over the subsequent nights. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert, exercise caution through the work zones, and consider alternate routes when possible.

Upon completion of the striping on Thursday morning, the standard rules for HOV lane usage will take effect immediately. The regulation hours for HOVs on I-15 are from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This regimen invites carpoolers and buses, easing the congestive pulse of traffic that is the city's daily commute while promoting environmentally friendly travel.

In tandem with the physical roadwork, NDOT also provides a plethora of information online about the HOV lanes, which includes the most current rules, ongoing studies, and other relevant resources for travelers. With the convenience of modern technology, motorists may also count on real-time updates regarding highway conditions, provided by NDOT's partnership with Waze. The progress of the striping project has been, and will continue to be subject to, the elements with the potential for unforeseen changes due to weather or other factors, they caution.
