Las Vegas commuters, brace yourselves for a series of overnight disruptions on I-15 this week. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced a slew of closures due to the I-15 South Widening Project that will impact travel from tomorrow until Friday. Travel lanes and ramps will be closed at night to allow for paving, loop detector installation, and manhole adjustments, according to an NDOT news release.

Starting Sunday night, drivers heading southbound on I-15 can expect to see the highway narrow down to just one lane between Warm Springs Rd and Sloan Rd. Closure of the I-215 connector ramp to southbound I-15 is also on the night's agenda. Additional intermittent closures of on and off-ramps along southbound I-15, from Blue Diamond Rd to Starr Ave, will occur, as stated in the NDOT announcement. These restrictions are expected every night from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. until Friday.

There's more for motorists to keep in mind: Beginning next Tuesday, the northbound direction of I-15 isn't getting off easy either. The highway will be limited to three lanes with the inside lane shuttered between Cactus Ave and Blue Diamond Rd. These northbound lane reductions will mirror the southbound schedule, nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., wrapping up on Friday, per the same NDOT news release.

Those hoping to dodge the frustration might want to plan detours in advance, or at least buffer their travel times. NDOT recommends drivers use caution when navigating through these work zones. The department collaborates with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions but remember, these scheduling are subject to changes due to unpredictable factors like weather
