Tragedy struck the Las Vegas community last Sunday morning, when a heated argument turned deadly. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported receiving a distress call at around 9:55 am about a shooting at the 10600 block of Mount Blackburn Avenue. When law enforcement arrived, they found two men inside a residence; one, later identified as 24-year-old Akili Porter, was arrested, and the other was suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
According to the official statement from the LVMPD, investigators pieced together that an argument had escalated to the point where Porter allegedly opted to not only brandish a weapon but to also re-enter the house and use it with lethal force. The result was a grim scene: a person lost their life, and Porter was locked up, facing charges of Open Murder with a Deadly Weapon.
The investigation by the LVMPD Homicide Section is ongoing, with future updates expected to shed more light on the course of events. Meanwhile, Akili Porter has since been transported to and booked at the Clark County Detention Center. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim as well as the cause and manner of death once family has been notified and appropriate examinations have been conducted.
