The Camino De Los Muertos Trail Run is calling all running enthusiasts to the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area for a day on the trails to support local environmental conservation efforts. Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1, with an early start at 6 a.m., this event is not just a test of endurance but also a fundraiser for Friends of LLELA, as reported by the City of Lewisville.
Open to runners of varied experience levels, the trail will take participants through shaded forests, open prairies sprinkled with wildflowers, and wetlands that are home to a diverse array of birds. Runners can choose from a selection of distances that suit their capabilities and interests - the lineup includes 100k, 50k, 25k, 10k, 5k, and a special 1-Mile Youth Trail Run for kids 12 and under. Registration is available online with fees ranging from $10 to $135, ensuring there's an entry point for everyone.
Every participant in the Camino De Los Muertos Trail Run can anticipate not only the natural beauty and camaraderie but also some tangible rewards. According to the City of Lewisville’s announcement, those who register by Oct. 3 will receive a "super-soft custom race shirt," a finisher’s medal, and other "cool swag." It's a chance to collect some memorabilia while contributing to a worthy cause.
The event is a showcase of the efforts undertaken by Friends of LLELA, a nonprofit that supports the preserve by organizing community gatherings, leading volunteer initiatives, and fundraising for restoration projects. Interested supporters are encouraged to further the impact by joining the organization. Membership is open for just $25 via an online sign-up on zeffy.com, helping to ensure LLELA remains a treasured community asset.
