A 22-year-old Louisiana man, Bracelon Armon Charles from Sunset, has been charged with six federal counts in Jefferson County. The charges include two carjackings, shootings, and a failed robbery, U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs said in a statement, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
In October 2023, Charles was accused of a failed carjacking in Beaumont that involved shooting the owner, another carjacking in Port Arthur, and an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Beaumont. Federal authorities responded through Operation Take Back America, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Charles faces a potential sentence of up to 30 years if found guilty, though he remains presumed innocent. The case is under investigation by multiple agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Beaumont and Port Arthur Police Departments, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Tommy Coleman, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
