Missouri's Lieutenant Governor, David Wasinger, and State Senator Adam Schnelting have recently taken a stand to highlight and combat elder abuse. Launching the "Protect Our Seniors" Tour, Wasinger aims to focus public attention on elder abuse prevention while connecting Missouri families with crucial resources and support systems.
Following last month's event in St. Charles, which featured discussions on the pervasive challenge of elder abuse, the Lieutenant Governor reaffirmed his commitment to advocacy for the senior community. "Too often, our seniors are targeted by scammers, neglected by broken systems, or left without the resources they need," Wasinger stated, per a press release from the Lieutenant Governor's office. The tour promises detailed presentations by experts, access to local service providers, and listening sessions designed to influence future policy.
Highlighting a personal connection to the issue, Senator Schnelting shared in an interview, "Elder abuse and neglect has always been an important issue to me. But when my own mother experienced it, it became even more personal." Schnelting and Wasinger share the mission to create a safer environment for the elderly in the state, as the Senator noted, "We can foster a culture of life for elderly Missourians and that's what we aim to do."
Spanning various counties, the tour's stops are strategically scheduled through November, with the goal of reaching out to a broad spectrum of Missouri's aging population. Upcoming tour stops include Franklin County on September 15 and Christian County on September 26, among others. Attendees at these events can expect to engage in a dialogue that not only seeks to address present challenges but also to shape a safer future for Missouri's elders.
With a background as an attorney who took on powerful interests in defense of the 'everyday Americans,' Wasinger brings a reputation for justice to the Lieutenant Governor's office. Additional information on the "Protect Our Seniors" Tour, including specific event locations and partnering organizations, will soon be available on the official website of the Lt. Governor's office.
