The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that a shooting in the Lutz community last month left one person dead and a suspect in custody. Deputies responded to the 1000 block of Helena Street after a woman called the HCSO Communications Center reporting that her boyfriend had been shot.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies arrived, they found Joshua Benjamin, 34, injured. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, identified as Anthony Williams, 19, was apprehended at the scene. He was initially charged with Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Armed Trespassing.

Following consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, Williams’s charges were upgraded on Thursday to Second-Degree Murder with a Firearm, in addition to the earlier charges. The investigation remains active, and further updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office. Details about the circumstances leading to the shooting have not yet been fully determined.
