A man was left in critical condition following a severe accident in which he fell from an overpass onto the busy lanes of the H-1 Freeway and was subsequently hit by two cars. The incident, which took place yesterday around 12:48 a.m., saw the 25-year-old man initially trying to climb back down onto the sidewalk from the guardrail on the Kalihi Street overpass when he slipped, as reported by Hawaii News Now.
Following his perilous descent into the eastbound lanes, the man was struck by two separate vehicles. The first was driven by a 34-year-old woman, followed by another driven struck again by a 68-year-old woman. While standing on the guardrail, trying to make a safe return to the overpass's sidewalk, the man's fate turned tragic in the blinding lights of unexpected traffic.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services rushed the victim to the hospital initially in serious condition, but his state later worsened to critical, as detailed by a police summary obtained by Star Advertiser. As of now, the man's identity has not been released. Both drivers involved were reported to have stayed at the scene and did not suffer any injuries themselves. Investigations into the unfortunate series of events are ongoing, with police mentioning that it remains unclear if factors such as speed, drugs, or alcohol had contributed to the collision.
