A tragic incident unfolded near the San Diego border barrier, where a man lost his life after falling from the fence. According to a report by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the accident occurred on March 31, just before 11:00 PM, when Border Patrol Agents, investigating a sensor activation, spotted two people on the secondary fence.
Seeing two other individuals fleeing towards Mexico, the agents called them to fix a buckled ladder left behind, their plea falling on deaf ears. It was around this time that the female companion fell from the structure, and shortly after, the man was discovered on the ground, bleeding. As per the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents refrained from moving the injured man, fearing "any type of movement would further aggravate the man’s extensive injuries and cause additional harm."
Despite rapid response and medical intervention by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the man exhibited no signs of life, was declared unresponsive, and pulseless upon their assessment. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. At 11:34 PM, he was pronounced dead by a remote physician consultation. The woman, who survived her injuries, was able to communicate with agents and waited for EMS to stabilize her.
Following the incident, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the man's remains for an autopsy, which later confirmed the cause of death as "multiple blunt force injuries due to an accident," the U.S. Customs and Border Protection relayed. The CBP Office of Professional Responsibility is reviewing the incident and notified the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General.
