JSO Homicide Sergeant M. Highfill shared with First Coast News that upon officers' arrival, the man was found suffering from severe gunshot wounds and, ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The deadly incident unfolded after the victim left a birthday gathering, at the hotel, and he was confronted in the parking lot.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the shooting and are working towards identifying the suspects. Sergeant Highfill detailed, that the assailants fled in a dark-colored vehicle, and the police are actively trying to pinpoint the make and model of the getaway car. Furthermore, in a statement to Action News Jax, the police said several witnesses from the birthday party are cooperating with the investigation.

While no arrests have been made, the JSO has gathered multiple testimonies from those detained, who are cooperating with the authorities. "What we understand at this point is that it was like a birthday party or something. We do not know how many individuals were there. We just know that our victim left this gathering, walked into the parking lot, and that was when the incident occurred," Highfill said, shedding light on the immediate circumstances leading to the tragedy, as reported by News4Jax.
