A tragic incident occurred last night in the North Highlands area when a man was struck and killed by a train. ABC10 reports that the collision happened away from a crossing on Roseville Road near Walerga Road. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District received the report of the train incident at approximately 8:01 p.m. and upon their arrival, discovered the man with injuries who had already been deceased.
First responders found the scene after being called, but they were unable to provide aid to save the man's life due to the severity of his injuries. Despite the swift response, he was pronounced dead at the location. As confirmed by the fire officials, Union Pacific Railroad has taken the helm of the investigation, with the crew of the train confirmed to be uninjured during the time after the incident, according to a statement obtained by KCRA.
This accident has prompted an investigation which is still underway. What led up to the man being on the tracks remains unclear. Union Pacific has stressed that the accident did not happen at a train crossing, which are typically marked and signal-controlled for pedestrian and vehicular safety.
