
Early Saturday morning, a fatal crash in East Garfield Park claimed the life of a 30-year-old man when his Hyundai sedan was rear-ended by an SUV, causing grave injuries, prompting emergency transport to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. near the 2600 block of West Warren Boulevard. The SUV, a black Dodge driven by a 42-year-old man, collided with the sedan, which was stationary at a traffic signal. The force of the impact inflicted injuries throughout the victim's body, according to the police statement. Additionally, the driver of the Dodge has been taken into custody, and charges are pending as the investigation continues to unfold.
Chicago police have yet to release the name of the deceased, maintaining the process of next-of-kin notification. Meanwhile, the CPD's Major Accidents Unit is actively investigating the circumstances that led to this tragic event, to discern every contributing factor in a bid to exact justice and perhaps prevent future incidents of this nature.
