
A fatal collision that occurred in north Phoenix has resulted in the death of a man and left a woman injured. The incident took place near 35th Avenue and Happy Valley Road on Monday around 12:30 p.m., with Phoenix Police responding to a call of a crash involving at least two cars. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Phoenix Police Department confirmed the arrival of officers at the scene, where they discovered the vehicles that had collided.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky, in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, said, "When officers arrived, they found at least two vehicles involved in the collision. The fire department responded and took a man and a woman to the hospital. The man died from his injuries at the hospital; the woman has been stabilized." Driving eastbound in the westbound lanes on Happy Valley Road, Arthur Cody Lomeli, 33, was identified as the deceased.
The woman, whose car was crashed into by Lomeli's, suffered critical injuries but has since been reported as stabilized. Police are currently investigating the series of events that led up to the tragic crash. The name of the injured woman remains unreleased at this time.
As a result of the accident, a road closure was necessary at the intersection, impeding traffic and prompting advisories for commuters to seek alternate routes. According to 12 News, the announcement of the closure was relayed via X from the Phoenix Police's official X account, which showed a picture of the scene and cautioned the public to avoid the area.
