A manhunt is underway after an elderly man was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint in a residential building in Manhattan. The crime took place on Monday morning near West 187 Street and Audubon Avenue, in an area patrolled by the 34th Precinct. Reports indicate that the suspect forcibly entered the building where a 99-year-old male victim was standing at the entrance gate, as per the NYPD Crimestoppers social media post.
According to the NYPD Crimestoppers, the perpetrator grappled with the gate before pushing his way past the elderly gentleman who, despite his age, found himself in the unenviable position of a victim. The assailant then proceeded to intensify his assault by placing a firearm against the victim's throat, demanding that he be led to an office within the building. Once inside, the robber made off with around $20,000.
The NYPD is actively seeking information on this incident and has encouraged anyone with insights to come forward. Detailed information about the suspect remains scarce, but authorities are combing through surveillance footage and gathering witness testimonies in an effort to identify the individual responsible. The New York community is alarmed by the brazen nature of the crime, particularly given the vulnerability of the victim involved.
Law enforcement officials have not released the identity of the victim, but the community's focus remains on his well-being and the pursuit of justice. The suspect, still at large, casts a shadow of unease upon the residents. The NYPD has asked for the public's help; urging anyone with information to direct message @nypdtips or call their toll-free number at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
