A Jefferson Parish man has entered a guilty plea to charges of possessing a controlled substance and a machine gun, with a sentencing date set for December 4, 2025. Jordy Breaux, 25, of Marrero, was taken into custody back in January 2024 at a local motel, and court documents later revealed he had nearly a liter of promethazine, a stack of cash, and a modified handgun capable of automatic fire in his possession, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson stated that Price pleaded guilty before United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown on August 21, to the charges stemming from a two-count indictment. In addition, he could be assessed a mandatory special assessment fee of $50 for the drug count and $100 for the firearms count, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The arrest was a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative led by the Department of Justice to curb violent crime and gun-related offenses in communities. This strategy was enhanced on May 26, 2021, with a new focus on building trust within communities, backing organizations that work to prevent violence preemptively, prioritizing enforcement in strategic manners, and keeping tabs on the outcomes, "is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone," as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Compliments for the operation's success were handed to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms by Simpson, the case against Price being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit. As this case heads towards sentencing, it highlights ongoing efforts to tackle the pervasive issues of illicit drugs and unlawful weapons on the streets of Louisiana, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.
