Early this morning, a high-speed chase and consequential crash into a building resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old in Orange County. As reported by ClickOrlando, the masked teenager, driving a blue Hyundai sedan with Florida plates that had been reported stolen, led authorities on a pursuit that pushed the vehicle's speeds to near 100 mph along Interstate 4, significantly over the 60 mph speed limit.
The chase began around 12:03 a.m. when a BOLO alert was issued after the car fled from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, ultimately attracting several law enforcement vehicles in pursuit. Troopers managed to execute a PIT maneuver on West Michigan Street, culminating in the vehicle crashing into a building at 1028 W. Michigan St. Despite an attempt to escape on foot and an unsuccessful Taser deployment by the authorities, the unnamed minor was apprehended when trying to scale a fence.
Meanwhile, WFTV confirmed the crash caused minor structural damage. The Florida Highway Patrol troopers were noted gathering evidence at the site, and an investigation is ongoing to understand the circumstances that led to the collision.
The teenager is now facing multiple charges that include grand theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing/eluding high speed/disregard for the safety of person/property.
