Heads up to all Maui residents and visitors planning to navigate the Nāpili area today: expect road closures and detours. The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) announced that parts of Nāpilihau Street and the Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) will be temporarily shut down for traffic signal installation near Nāpili Plaza.

From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. crews will be using a crane that might be finished earlier to install the signal poles during the closure. Nāpilihau Street will be blocked off on the makai side of Honoapi‘ilani Highway, and no turning into or exiting this stretch at the intersection with the highway will be allowed. While the project unfolds, Nāpili Plaza can still be accessed along Nāpilihau Street.

Motorists on the mauka side of Honoapi‘ilani Highway will need to take note: only right turns onto and off Nāpilihau Street will be permitted. This limitation is set to streamline the flow of traffic around the construction zone and minimize disruptions as much as possible.
