In a noteworthy effort to embrace all community members, the Maui County Fair is introducing a Special Fair Day specifically tailored for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mobility impairment, and the Deaf community. This event is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the War Memorial Special Events Complex, featuring tailored attractions and live entertainment.
Free tickets are being offered on a limited basis. Those who wish to attend have a chance to apply through a service agency or school; alternatively, applications can be directly submitted online at the fair's website by September 19. Confirmations will be dispatched by email on September 23. According to an announcement by Mayor Richard Bissen released on the county's official website, "The Special Fair Day offers connection and access for individuals of all abilities and reflects our commitment to inclusion and respect for all members of our community." Mayor Bissen voiced contentment over the return of this inclusionary tradition alongside the fair's overall comeback.
Event rules require that each participant should have a caregiver accompany them, and for students, a responsible adult must be present; this policy ensures that all attendees have the proper support for an enjoyable experience, noting that the Hawaiʻi Department of Education is not involved in organizing this event, thus, children who wish to attend during school hours will be marked as absent for the day.
There are also opportunities for community involvement through volunteering. Those who are interested may sign up at a designated web page, showcasing the fair's commitment to community engagement. Meanwhile, the beloved Maui County Fair, supported by the County of Maui, promises the return of thrilling E.K. Fernandez rides, a plethora of contests, local food booths, and a gamut of other activities from Oct. 2–5, 2025, at the same War Memorial Special Events Complex—embracing the spirit of celebration after a six-year hiatus.
