Paul Edwards Evans, 58, once called the "Mayor of Bissonnet," will serve 10 years in prison for sex trafficking and breaking federal sex offender laws, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. He pleaded guilty on May 29 to helping transport a woman for prostitution across state lines and not following the reporting rules required for sex offenders, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt sentenced Paul Edwards Evans to federal prison for trafficking women for commercial sex from Houston to Las Vegas and failing to follow sex offender registration rules. The investigation was conducted by the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance, a group of local and federal agencies, including the Houston Police Department, FBI, Department of State, and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Transfer details have not been announced, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie Wirsing, who prosecuted the case, worked with the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance to secure Evans’ sentence. The "blade" or "track," near I-59 Southwest Freeway and Bissonnet Street, has been a known area for prostitution in Houston and was a focus of Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance’s anti-trafficking work. Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance has also worked on supporting victims and holding offenders like Evans accountable, as stated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
