Mecklenburg County is calling on its residents to provide feedback on its latest efforts to address housing and community development. The draft HUD Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, covering the period from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025, has been made available by the county for public review. As reported by official county news, the CAPER document summarizes the annual achievements of the CDBG program and outlines its impact on low and moderate-income households.

Interested parties can review the document and provide their comments during the public comment period, which extends from September 4 to September 24, 2025. Comments can be sent by mail to the Centralina Regional Council or via email to Lovetta Walton at [email protected] or Timmothy Tibbs at [email protected]. The county plans to host an in-person public hearing on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, to gather additional input. This session will be held at 4 p.m. at the Centralina Regional Council offices.

For those who cannot attend in person, a virtual option via Zoom is offered. The meeting can be accessed with Meeting ID 885 3588 4029 and Passcode 655519. Details on receiving meeting materials can also be obtained by contacting Lovetta Walton at 704-348-2702 or through her email.

If additional accommodations are needed, such as special modifications or language translation services, Timmothy Tibbs can be reached at 980-314-2915 or [email protected]. At least 72 hours' notice is requested prior to the meeting to make the necessary arrangements. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), aims to help communities enhance housing quality, living environments, and economic opportunities, particularly for those of low and moderate income.
