Residents of Mesquite, Texas, are advised to exercise caution when parking oversized vehicles on residential property. In a recent announcement on its official social media page, the City of Mesquite reiterated the provisions of a local ordinance regulating the parking of such vehicles.
According to the city code, commercial or oversized vehicles with a carrying capacity of 1.5 tons or more are prohibited from being parked on residential premises. The ordinance further defines an “oversized vehicle” as any vehicle exceeding 22 feet in length, eight feet in width, or 10 feet in height. This restriction applies to step vans, cargo vans, tractor-trailers, and similar large-scale vehicles, which may not be parked in driveways or along neighborhood curbs.
The list of prohibited vehicles is comprehensive and includes bobtail trucks, tow trucks, panel trucks, bucket trucks, platform trucks, and buses. In summary, any vehicle that is unusually large in size, width, or height is not permitted in residential areas. The City of Mesquite emphasized that this regulation is designed to maintain the character of residential neighborhoods and ensure streets remain accessible and free from obstruction caused by commercial-sized vehicles.
City officials haven't specified the penalties for non-compliance, but it's fair to speculate that they might include fines or other enforcement actions. Residents are advised to consult the city code or the local government's communications for further details on the policy and the consequences of not adhering to it.
